   weekly tips on how
   to keep your children
   safe.

   Be smart, make safe decisions!

   Instinct
Instinct is nature's way of taking care of us. An instinct can be a funny feeling in your stomach, a creepy
feeling that gives you a shiver, or just a feeling that says you should be careful.

We should pay close attention to these feelings because sometimes they can warn us of danger.

   Arms Reach Plus
Arms reach plus means to always stay out of arm's reach if a stranger comes near you. Protect your
personal space. If the stranger is in a car, take two steps back and be ready to run!

   Buddy System
Always try to go places with one or more friends. If you are not able to go with a friend or friends, stay
   near a group of people.

   KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE
Always remember: it's nice to be helpful, but adults should take care of adults. If someone needs help or
asks you for help, go get your mom, dad, teacher, or sitter. Then you can all help together. NEVER try
   to help alone!

The best self defense is awareness and escape. Running and yelling, combined, is the most effective way
of escaping assault. Even if you are not sure of the danger, do not be afraid of looking silly; that is far
   better than taking the risk.

Just screaming can be seen as bad behavior and may be ignored by potential help. Instead yell, "You're
not my father/mother" or "fire" to draw positive attention.
